Easy, quick, thoughtless, fun, simple, etc. Any of those and anyone would be doing it. Maybe everyone.

What are you willing to do that the next guy isn’t? There are 1,000 steps left in the marathon, are you going to crawl over the finish line, walk, sprint or at least give it everything you’ve got?

If you’re not willing to do it, someone else might be.

Or even if someone else is also willing to sprint, maybe you’re just a little faster. Or if you get there at the same time, is there room for the two of you? Or if they’re a little faster, maybe there’s still room for #1 and #2 after the finish line.

Someone commented to me that 1,000 posts must not have been easy. I had forgotten it was difficult. It’s amazing how quickly we forget. We forget what’s good, what’s bad, even what’s really hard and scary. My Write Every Day challenge is no longer difficult for me, in fact, it’s easy. To throw gasoline on the fire, I actually really like it now.

Now that I’ve hit 1,000, I have even more confidence. Back on Day 1, I had very little. With each 100, I gained more and more. But now that I have 1,000, it’s some sort of self-awarded badge of honor that I’m going to use and benefit from.

But it all started with Day 1. Then Day 2. Then Day 3. Repeat.

  • Possible: do what’s easy, what you’re passionate about, what everyone else does.
  • Impossible: do what you hate until you love it.
  • Repossible: do what’s hard, what takes a long time, what others don’t want to do.

Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it’s not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won’t. It’s whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.” – Barack Obama
