I wrote one post and it has earned me over $20,000.

This is part of the Every Single Day Series based on the book to be published April 4, 2017 called, wait for it, Every Single Day. It’s about how Small Change can lead to Big Change. This particular post addresses the benefit of working at your goal every single day because you never know what might hit it big.

How one post has earned me over $20,000–and keeps earning.

This is what I usually hear when I tell the story of my $20,335 post:

  • “The post must have been epic!”
  • “You must have worked on it for months!”
  • “You certainly tricked out the SEO and bought ads to promote it!”
  • “At least you expected it to be so popular!”
  • “It must have been a really sexy and hot topic!”

Sorry, none of the above is what happened. Here’s the big secret:

I relieved pain.

I had a problem (or a challenge or a pain point or just something annoying) that I was dealing with on a regular basis. My clients were having the same issue. A quick Google search didn’t get me too much help so I took matters into my own hands.

I addressed exactly the pain that my clients were having: how to set up their email program for their Google Apps for Business email.

Boring! Yawn!

This is what people looked like when tried to set up Google Apps email in their Outlook. I helped them.

Exactly. But I noticed a hole in the market and filled that hole. The traffic to that post was growing and growing. Most of my business at the time was WordPress. I would have rather had more traffic to my former business’s site for WordPress issues or maybe affiliate income from hosting services. But nope. It came because people couldn’t figure out how to set up their Outlook settings to make their Google Apps for Email work properly.

It might not be the sexiest topic, but it pays the bills. What pain do you see in your market? How could you address it? Even if it’s not your core business, how might you be able to help just one person? Because standing in line behind that one person and their frustration are usually many more. So what are you going to do about it? Wait for the perfect storm or just go for it and see what happens?

  • Possible: suffer
  • Impossible: wait for the perfect mix of pain and remedy and address that
  • Repossible: address the pain as best you can and see what happens
