Her daughter helped her write the stories … and then she wanted to go out and play with her friends.

I was overjoyed to see such a big Dutch star on television with her daughter as she’s the perfect example of someone I’ll plan to interview for my upcoming book, “How to Write a Book with your Kids and Why You Should.“
Isa Hoes wrote a book together with her daughter, Vlinder Kamerling. They were both on a Dutch TV show where they talked about their experiences writing the book together. The daughter, who’s 11-years old, was very shy and sweet, but also told it like it was. For example, she wasn’t jumping for joy about how much fun it was to write the book. In fact, she said that she often just got it over with so she could go back out and play with her friends.
It’s a great example of how we, as parents, have to pull our kids in to do things that they might not want to do, but that are going to be good for them (in our opinions). But later, the kids are, hopefully, proud of their achievements.
What else did the mother-daughter team experience? Did it help build the bond between them? Did the daughter learn about the creative process? Maybe gave her insight into a future career–or know better what she doesn’t want? Are they planning on doing more? Does it inspire other parents to do something together with their kids?
Oh, and is it a good book?
From my perspective, based on my goals, I care more about the process of writing together with our children for all of the side benefits I’ve experienced along the way. But other people, you know, readers, are going to care if the book is a fun read. Let’s see if Ise Hoes and her daughter can pull off both.
